Introduction
It is the desire of Shuyokan Ryu that the Shogo Level candidates take an active leadership role within the Ryu and community. It is important to the Shuyokan Dojocho that all Shogo candidates remain on the path of knowledge, personal
development and a giving and serving spirit. To this end, all Shogo Level promotions will be awarded at the sole discretion of the Shuyokan Dojocho based on time in grade, continued training, leadership, personal development and
contribution to the martial arts and community.
In addition to promotion to the Shogo level rank, an honorific title will also be awarded. While the informal title of "sensei" will always apply in all cases, the awarded title shall be used in all formal matters and settings. The formal honorific titles are shown in the table below.
Shogo (Senior) Level Ranks

Shogo or Senior Level
Requirements

A Word About Titles
Many Ryu within the Martial Arts Community use similar titles to those adopted by Shuyokan. These titles may be bestowed at different rank levels in different Ryu. The titles and ranks adopted by Shuyokan are not intended to conflict nor supersede titles and ranks used by other organizations or Shuyokai. Any titles and/or certificates associated with/or issued by Shuyokan prior to the implementation of Shuyokan Shogo Level Ranks shall be recognized and honored.
Project Guidelines
The projects indicated below are offered for guidance only. Specific projects shall be discussed with the Shuyokai Dojocho and approved by the Shuyokan Dojocho. For each year during the time in grade period, a minimum of one project shall be completed.
