This book is probably one of the absolute best books in aikido today. The perspective the authors take is very well thought out and flows like a perfect kokyu-nage. After reading this book I have actually met and trained with 4 of the people cited in the book, which actually allowed me to understand there approach to teaching before stepping on the mat with them. This is a must read for everyone in aikido or anyone interested in studing the art.

I was hesitant to purchase this book but am SO glad I did. I've been a martial artist for some time now and just recently began aikido. This book is a wonderful resource for newcomers, as it includes philosophy and etiquette and ways you can begin working on fitting in to your new dojo. Even how to SELECT the right dojo for you. Anyone interested in aikido, you need this book at the beginning of your training.
Good practical book

I found this book quite helpful after I got my blackbelt and was floundering around wondering what to do next.
The Aikido Student Handbook
Reviewer: A reader December 31, 1996
This is a straight forward, informative source of information for those interested or newly started in the study of Aikido. It details proper etiquette, procedure, and explains many of the minor details of being an Aikidoka (student) that your sensei may assume you already know. O'Conner makes many good comparisons, and moves through the rudimentary aspects of training in Aikido at a speed that anyone can understand.

Aikido advice for beginners and advanced. This book not only provides a basic introduction to aikido and its spirit of practice for beginners or those unfamiliar with aikido but it discloses the more ellusive and intangible aspects that all aikido practitioners seek.
Even better than his first book! I highly recommend it.

Mr. O'Connor knows what Aikido students are looking for in this wonderful, informative book. This should be a first pick for those studying Aikido or even thinking about studying. I was surprised to see that the author also added his own drawings. They are very good.
